“I remember I was just 10 when my neighbourhood celebrated the opening of a new staircase. I couldn’t grasp why everyone was so excited about it. It was later that I realised the simple stairs was saving commuters around 10 minutes to get to the nearest bus stop. I experienced firsthand how even the smallest change in the built environment makes such a tangible impact on our everyday lives.” – Dilys Teoh, URA Planner. Similar to Dilys, Jia Yi’s interest in urban planning began as a child, and today, our two URA scholarship recipients are playing a direct part in strategising the use of our land and optimising underground cavern space in Singapore. Read on to find out how the URA scholarship has helped Dilys Teoh and Ng Jia Yi build on their passion, enrich their studies, and develop skills at: https://lnkd.in/gUQEcy3k The URA scholarship application is now open for application until 10 March 2024. Peek into the innovative designs of condos from the 70s and 80s through our interview with architectural photographer, Finbarr Fallon, and urban planner, Samantha Chia. The duo have published a book that sheds light on an interesting period of Singapore’s architecture, when high-rise living in private apartments was first introduced. Find out more about the timeless design qualities that they have uncovered in these buildings, and how their book supports the Singapore Architecture Collection in telling authentic stories about Singapore’s architectural journey: https://lnkd.in/gxhyaTdz While their book is sold out, you can hear more from the authors in an upcoming talk on 1 Mar, at the National Library Board.
